That way his family would get paid out for his death on the job and would not have to accept that he had done something so awful to hundreds of passengers. <br /><br />The only thing he didn't realise was that the inmarsat satellite would keep pinging the aircraft every hour even tho MAS had not subscribed to that service and that would allow it to be worked out where the plane went into the water gently enough so that it did not break up and leave lots of floating debris to be found. We know where it ended up from the pings from the CVR and FDR and the plane will be found eventually. That took 2 years with AF477 with it being much better known where the plane had hit the water.
